I think Toyota's 740b project is a different thing from the Caterpillar's truck model. I've read several articles from different sources about Toyota's 740b project. Here is another one:

https://www.autossegredos.com.br/mar...cto-da-toyota/

"Toyota is currently working on the development of two new products for Brazil. Project 360B will give rise to the new generation of Corolla and Project 740B will give rise to a compact SUV. The sedan is ahead and will make its debut in 2019. The SUV should debut only in 2020."

One article mentioned that TJ Cruiser's targeted market would include Japan and U.S..
I am optimistic TJ will be in production, just not anytime soon. They just had a new Rav4 after all.

Thanks for the links. Strange that I can find no North American press talking about this. Actually, many of the early articles mentioned about it coming to the US. Many have backtracked since then.

It may also be among the other Toyota models that are built for certain world markets that never come here. Small vans are very popular there, not so much here.

I still very much want the TJ Cruiser here. But I will have to temper my anticipation.

I see the FT-4X has been removed from the upcoming vehicles list.

https://www.toyota.com/

Would be very happy if the TJ Cruiser showed up there.

I bet it has something to do with Lexus launching a broader electric/hybrid vehicle strategy with the Lexus UX recently.
Toyota likes to use the same powertrain and drivetrain across models so it could mean a shift away from these off-roaders and more to green crossovers.

The Mazda CX-30 looks interesting to me. I like the more nimble size as opposed to my RAV4. The seats up storage is kind of skimpy, mostly because of the fashionable sloped roof, but I am guessing the seats down will be very good because of it's long 104" wheelbase.

It won't be out until 2020, but since i am not currently in the market, I can wait.
