I wonder why....

I wonder why the FT-4X is listed on the Toyota site as an upcoming vehicle, but no sign of the FT Cruiser.

Makes me wonder which will ultimately be produced. The FT Cruiser does have a registered name, but the FT-4X is just code for "future Toyota", so unnamed.

Maybe they haven't updated the site to reflect their new direction? We even have a new concept vehicle (grey one) to look forward to but there's nothing on the Toyota site about it. OR they could actually stick with the FT-4X naming scheme for production. For the most part, their new naming model makes no sense to me, kinda like the C-HR.

I don't think they will use the FT-4X for a production name because it is code for "Future Toyota" and has not been registered as a car model name, whereas the "TJ Cruiser" name has been officially registered. I am just wondering which car will get that name and become reality.

Good point about the Toyota site update. I will watch for a change.
FT might have been a design exercise or maybe its even a case of them having two versions of the new TJ, a van and an SUV. Even the van-like TJ we seen, it still wasn't a production model but still a concept so its still in question what we will get come production. That's the way I see it unless i'm missing out on something.

I think you are on to something about FT just being a styling exercise. Some of it features seem way out there and not feasible for production.

I really don't see them producing both. We may yet see some changes to the TJ before ( or if) it ever makes it to production. Toyota is accepting input from auto show attendees and things could change because of that.
If they're looking for input, I wouldn't mind seeing a spare tire mounted to the back, but that would only happen if the cargo door opens to the side instead of upwards. Otherwise putting it under the cargo floor would take up storage space that could be used for something else.

Personally I don't think it is likely Toyota will do a major reconfigure to allow for that. If anything , I can more likely see them do away with the mini-van side doors and hinge them instead.
