Sad we will probably never see a Tokyo like TJ Cruiser. :)

I am sad that the TJ Cruiser, as shown in Tokyo and in my avatar will probably never be built. :(

I am not interested in a Toyota Wrangler or a rebirth of the FJ. I want an Element/ xB/ smaller RAV4....small on the outside, big inside, with a higher ride height than a conventional car.

99.9% with you. If that Element/XB/(2 Door) Rav4 comes with a 4wd option, then I'm with you a full 100%!

I'm still holding out the smallest of hopes that Toyota and Suzuki might co-create something close to the above. Maybe a false hope, though.
Wow! I really thought it would never be shown in the US. It seemed to have faded away after being shown in Japan. I would definitely be interested in buying one, especially if it priced below the RAV 4. Will it be in Phoenix too?

Thanks for the heads up!

Probably not.
TJ was in the 2018 Philippine International Motor Show in October. I hope it'll make it to production soon. I'll buy one if it comes out next year. 4runner is too big and expensive. Rav4 is just not my cup of tea.

Actually, I was pretty sure it wouldn't be in Phoenix because that show is first and the US debut in LA is later.

I am happy with my 2015 RAV4, but I could possibly rationalize getting the newer one because I really like the interior especially with the shelving. I had that in my Scion xB and loved it.

But I would be really happy with the TJ and would switch to that in a heartbeat. Still we don't really know if it will ever be produced, so I will try not to get too excited.
I am starting to have my doubts about this story about the TJ Cruiser being in LA. I have searched and no other automotive publication mentions this. It is shown on the LA Auto Show site, but they have been wrong before and corrected their site closer to the show. When you click on the TJ Cruiser, nothing comes up.

Hope it shows up, but not confident.:plain:

Toyota debuted it last year in Tokyo then went dormant. I guess maybe it's not a new concept anymore and lost its news worthiness? Also, Toyota doesn't seem to promote it at all.

It's too bad that they don't sell Suzuki Jimny in the U.S.. Many people would buy that car in a heartbeat. I am waiting to see what Bronco looks like, hope it's smaller than 4runner. But I am not too confident on Ford's reputation on reliability.
A new SUV will be built at Alabama plant instead of Corolla.
It will be shown to dealers at a private event in Las Vegas this September.

I don't like the new format of this forum. Bye.

Interesting.....but I don't think we will necessarily see the FT-4X. It still has not even received a real name. Hollis has blown smoke before , so I don't take him too literally on any details.

I would like to see a "latest posts" tab on this site.
Hi everyone , new to this forum . I had to join as I really like the design : functionality of the tj cruiser . I think it’s the perfect car for me and my growing family . Small on the outside big on the inside , got good suv looks probably could do some light off roading too, hybrid aswell . I really think Toyota should put everything into making this car a reality , it will be a hit with families and taxi firms . Do it Toyota it works . I just hope by the time I will be looking to upgrade my current car, it will be on the road by 2023

Welcome Olixar!
I love the TJ Cruiser too. It will be interesting to see what Toyota actually comes out with now that they have announced building an SUV in the plant they will share with Mazda. Rumors are saying it will be like the FT-4X, but that is uncertain.

I too can wait since I have a 2015 RAV4 I am very happy with. I would just like something slightly smaller, still with lots of interior space, to cope better with city traffic.
Don't know if I trust this source, but I hope it is true!

"For now, all these are speculative so the only way we'll know it's on the way is if does make an appearance at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. " Oct.29-Nov.4.
I think with Ford's releasing new Bronco and Baby Bronco, it might've hurried up Toyota a bit.

I am not even totally convinced an appearance there will make much difference either. If it comes with tweaks that make it more production ready, that will get me excited.

I don't know if Toyota can be made to hurry up by anything. They should have had something competitive in this segment back in 2015 when Jeep and Honda did. All we got was the CHR, with slow sales and little utility.
I am more optimistic. I feel Toyota will either release or at least make a production announcement about of a TJ Crusier or FT-4x style small suv within the next two years. We shall see.
I am ok with that time frame. I can easily wait because I have a good car now.
I think Japan will get the TJ Cruiser because small van like vehicles are very popular there. We may not get it here, but at least it's possible if it is in production somewhere.

Perhaps the FT-4X will be the US version.
