Makes sense for Toyota to produce more pickup trucks and SUVs in America to meet increasing demands, though it looks like they may put more effort into already popular models like the Tacoma, Tundra, Highlander and RAV4.

from autoweek:
Over 60 percent share of the industry is now in pickup trucks and SUVs
That's a lot of buyers and Toyota could command more of that market if they came out with a wider range of SUVs like the TJ Cruiser.

PHEV should be a big part of it because that's one of the only ways they will see some real success selling these to the masses. Gas mileage has always been a top concern with bigger vehicles, taking that away changes everything... among all the other reason for hybrid.

Ford may be looking into a hybrid F-150, so Toyota will need to jump on board if they don't want to be left behind, but that would also mean diverting resources to developing pickups instead of expanding their SUV lineup.
