For the first time since the concepts release we now have some insight on what its all about. Hopefully this provides enough information while we wait for a production model to release.

Probably the most interesting fact to me is how the rear hatch operates, you can either lift it up or use the barn style doors.

i'm big on design on the 4X and because of that design comes out on top

but what REALLY comes out on top is the fact they pay homage to 90's Toyota's which isn't easy. when you have such a big gap time from one model to the next, its hard.

The integrated GoPro side mirrors. Recording your adventures is one thing, but those cameras can do double duty as dash cams as well and it'll give you a more complete picture of the front since there's one on each side. There's just so many little features going for it, I can't really pinpoint one I want over the others.

Its only one GoPro Hero 5 Session on the drivers side, the passenger side doesn't have one.

Doubt that'll make it into production though and if it does, I would be ridiculously afraid that someone would just steal the whole darn mirror. Those GoPros are like $600+ !!

Toyota will probably just make it an option. If part of a package it will be beyond what most owner are willing to get. For this think in terms of Toyota's version of a Jeep Trailhawk.

Even with how practical that might seem I still think they got too ambitious with some of this stuff. Will have to see how they deliver.

Didn't think of someone just making off with the mirrors. :D
A lot of what we see is pretty much just the engineers throwing everything they have at it, even the top trim won't have everything we see. I'm pretty sure there's still features I don't know about let alone use if they ever go into the production model.

But with how much they were talking about the two way open tailgate, that is the most likely to appear.

The camera on the mirrors doesn't even seem practical to be honest haha but yeah.. it's definitely something that ran through my head. Maybe I'm just over-thinking it but I mean, if it's a possibility, it's something I'll worry about.

The multi-function tail gate is one sure thing that I think will make it to the production model because of how big of a feature it is. In my opinion probably the most notable feature.

Do you think the cold box/hot box thing would make it with the doors though?

I'm still on the fence with most of this concept.
However that being said I don't see this taking very long to dominate the crossover market.

I like all the tie down points, most notably the roof. But are the ones on the bumpers going to be strong enough for recovery if needed.
The exterior power outlets are a feature that have been a long time coming and I'm glad to finally see their first appearance on a Toyota model.

The profile of the vehicle is good to pretty good, and has a decent stance. It may just be the color they chose for the concept, would probably change my opinion if I could see one all black or even something like the new color out in the other Toyota lines.

The mugshot is decent, but I'm more of a grill guy anyway.

Let's talk rear end for a minute, WOW this sucker has a large rear end!!!! Not that I have any problems with big butts, I'm on my second FJ now and trust me you gotta love big butts to love the FJ!!!! Here again it may just be the contrasting colors that draw your eyes to that monster of a rear door. And the blind spots are something to consider here as well, looks as though they may not be as bad as some with the larger windows but hope it doesn't have the blind spots of a Sherman Tank. I like the multi use functions with a lift gate or barn doors. I find myself wandering what I may want to transport hot, but the cooler is a great feature.

Will they offer it with a small diesel??? Now I'm probably just dreaming but would be a great option. PLEASE!!!TOYOTA START OFFERING DIESELS TO THE US MARKET!!!! Had to get that out of my system sorry.

Wet storage ??? would be better if it were insulated.

This will make a nice crossover to have some fun with for a small family, will be interesting to see what it's capable of.

You bet! It will do some damage to the competition.

If there's anything Toyota is good at, its CUV's and SUV's.

Best of all the FJ has a lengthy history behind it that plays perfectly into the TJ.

From what I can see they have all bases covered. In my case its TJ vs CX-3, the hottest in the segment right now :D

Toyota sales are obviously great but more so for the reasons that it's a well known brand for their reliability. That being said, I really don't care for their other SUVs/CUVs. Especially that new C-HR that they came out with that apparently has a lot of complaints on it's performance and handling characteristics.

The CX-3 does have a pretty nice interior and they're exterior updates look nice, but Mazda typically hasn't been a highly regarded brand in terms of reliability and quality so I wouldn't take my chances on it.

New Mazdas are doing much better for the brands image.
If you look at the Mazda 3 and CX-3, owners are happy and that matters a lot. These early months of ownership tell you a lot. For the bigger picture look at some of the early M.Y. Mazda 3 owners.

The only thing I'm really finding about what the owners of the Mazda 3 are saying is the interior space is lacking and the carpets peach fuzz a bit, really not too worried about the carpets at all but the lacking space is something noteworthy.

that must be for a small amount of the overall owners because from my experience these are owned by a lot of single individuals or couples without children.

for a full family I can see how that would be an issue, but its probably why Mazda brought the CX-3 out.

I can imagine, and looking at how forums typically are where it's literally just complaint central (which makes sense), these issues are definitely very small and more of personal preference issues compared to real solid problems.

With certain brands that's true and Toyota being around for as long as they have, there's little to complain about due to everything else good about them.

There are always certain things to point out but most give it a pass or make changes in that area.

My biggest gripe with Toyota these days is the front facia of their new or refreshed models. They seem to be leaning towards pointed front ends with too many angles for my liking and if the TJ Cruiser ever goes into production, I hope to see a bumper similar to the concept's, something square and simple to match what it is intended for.

If they do follow up with the concept design it'll definitely be a product that stands out on their lineup, sort of like the C-HR but in a much better way. It'll attract the attention they'll want to draw buyers in and it'll be less of a love/hate relationship.

Probably one of the things that will make it stand out is that rear gate, nothing like it on the market and the design is brilliant from a cost/manufacturing stand point and what its like to actually use.

I actually like it better than the FJ's setup.

That's definitely one piece that really stands to me and I know for a fact I'd be using both functions all the darn time. Partially because of the cool factor, partially because if you have the convenience of being able to do it, why not.

Even if it doesn't come with the heated and cooler boxes on the hatch, I wouldn't mind at all.
